Auditions for the chorus take place twice a year.
Our next audition opportunities will occur in September 2020.
WHAT'S INVOLVED IN PROSPECTIVE MEMBER AUDITIONS FOR MODERN MEN?
Congratulations! You’ve decided to audition as a singing member of Modern Men. Our mission is “dedicated to musical excellence while creating harmony through diversity.
Regular rehearsals take place on Mondays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. There will also be section rehearsals and two Saturday all-day rehearsals which help us get the music learned, and can make up for a missed Monday rehearsal.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO AUDITION?
You will NOT have to sing in front of a group of people. The only one who will hear you is Dr. Stan Hill, the Artistic Director.
Either bring with you a prepared piece of music with piano accompaniment, in the key you wish to sing it, or simply be ready to sing My Country ‘Tis of Thee.
To check your tonal memory, simply sing an easy seven-note melody that is played for you which you repeat back. Tonal memory tells us that you can easily learn melodies.
The Artistic Director will then check your range. How high and how low can you sing? This helps us place you in the section that is most comfortable for you.
Can you read music? No? No problem. Yes? Great. It helps but is not absolutely necessary. We just want to see if you can tell if notes are going up or down and how long they are held.
We may ask you about your choral experiences and what choirs you have sung with.
That’s it. As soon as you audition, you will be told whether you have made it into the chorus, or what other options you have.
BUT WHAT IF I DON'T MAKE IT?
You can always try again for the next concert period. However, there are several ways you can still become a part of Modern Men. Volunteer to help with marketing, production, poster distribution and many other ways your involvement can help make Modern Men even more successful.
